Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage Plan

What is a Medicare Advantage Plan?
A Medicare Advantage Plan (also called Medicare Part C) is an alternative way to receive your Medicare benefits through a private insurance company approved by Medicare.

Think of it this way:
Original Medicare is provided directly by the federal government.
Medicare Advantage is provided by a private insurance company that manages your Medicare benefits and often includes extra benefits not covered by Original Medicare.

How It Works
When you enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan:
-
You still have Medicare
-
The plan covers everything that Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) covers.
-
Many plans include prescription drug coverage (Part D).
Â
Many plans offer extra benefits such as:
-
Dental coverage
-
Vision exams and eyewear
-
Hearing aids
-
Fitness memberships (like gym programs)
-
Over-the-counter allowances
-
Transportation assistance
-
Telehealth services

What You Pay
Most people continue paying their Medicare Part B premium.
Depending on the plan, you may have:
-
A $0 monthly plan premium
-
Copays when you visit doctors or specialists
-
An annual maximum out-of-pocket limit that helps protect you from very high medical expenses
Example:
Mary turns 65 and enrolls in a Medicare Advantage Plan. Instead of carrying:
-
Medicare Part A
-
Medicare Part B
-
A separate drug plan
She chooses one Medicare Advantage Plan that combines:
-
Hospital coverage
-
Medical coverage
-
Prescription drugs
-
Dental
-
Vision
-
Hearing
Â
All in one plan.
